Godalming Relaxed Cinema Club (GRCC)

 

The Film Society in conjunction with Godalming Town Council and CareUK, has supported the establishment of Godalming Relaxed Cinema Club (GRCC) to show films in the Wilfrid Noyce Centre.

The purpose of GRCC is to enable those living with Dementia or Autism, and other film lovers with physical conditions unable to access cinema in the local multiplex, to watch films on a large screen in an environment that suits them.

GRCC is run entirely by volunteers and free to join. Members are provided with a programme of upcoming films and both members and their guests are welcome to attend screenings free of charge. Those that attend may make donations to help cover costs. We use the main hall of the Wilfrid Noyce Centre in Godalming courtesy of the Town Council. The films all start at 2:15pm with the doors open from 1:30pm.

The schedule of upcoming films for 2025 are:

  • Saturday 24 May - "Rocketman" (2019) This Elton John biopic start Taron Egerton as John from his early years at the Royal Academy of Music through his partnership with Bernie Taupin.
  • The film is directed by Dexter Fletcher.           

 

  • Saturday 28 June - "The Jungle Book" (2016) The Walt Disney classic animated film with the voice of Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, Scarlett Johansson, Idris Elba, Christopher Walken and Lupita Nyong'o. Directed by Jon Favreau

  • Saturday 12 July - La La Land (2016)
  • The musical romantic comedy starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone as a struggling jazz pianist and an aspiring actress who meet and fall in love while pursuing their dreams in Los Angeles.

 

  • Saturday 16 August - Gigi (1958)
  • A musical comedy set in Paris starring Leslie Caron and Maurice Chevalier. Gigi features songs with lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and the music of Frederic Loewe.

  • Saturday 13 September – Calamity Jane (1953)
  • A western musical starring Doris Day and Howard Keel. The film is loosely based on the wild west heroine Calamity Jane and a romance with Wild Bill Hickok

 

  • Saturday 11 October – Moana (2016)
  • The Walt Disney animated musical adventure, set in Polynesia, tells the story of a strong-willed chieftain’s daughter who saves the people of her island with the help of a demigod and a mystical relic.

  • With the familiar music of Rogers and Hammerstein, Gordon MacRae and Shirley Jones star in this fantasy musical.

  • Saturday 6 December – The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2011)
  • Much loved actors Judy Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkinson and others play a group of seniors on a holiday in India. With humour, romance and exotic scenery their lives intersect and various ways.
